Major League Baseball and the players’ union have finally agreed on terms to begin the 2020 season next month, and while a few teams have good odds to win the World Series, two teams stand above the rest.
The Los Angeles Dodgers currently have the best odds to win the 2020 title, according to BetOnline, while the New York Yankees, on the other hand, are ranked a close second.
Here’s how BetOnline ranked the top five teams who have the best odds at winning the World Series this year:
- Los Angeles Dodgers +375
- New York Yankees +450
- Houston Astros +1200
- Minnesota Twins +2000
- Atlanta Braves +2200
It’s no surprise the Dodgers have the best odds at winning the 2020 title. After all, they added All-Star right fielder Mookie Betts and Cy Young winner David Price via trade with the Boston Red Sox this offseason, adding to their already potent lineup.
The Dodgers’ current starting rotation includes Clayton Kershaw, Walker Buehler, David Price, Julio Urias and Alex Wood. Their bats, though, may be even more dangerous with Betts, Cody Bellinger, Gavin Lux, Max Muncy, Justin Turner, Corey Seager, Joc Pederson and A.J. Pollock.
On the flip side, the Yankees boast the best roster in the American League after signing All-Star pitcher Gerrit Cole to a monster deal. New York’s rotation may just end up being as impressive as their competitors out West. Cole, Masahiro Tanaka, J.A. Happ, Jordan Montgomery and Jonathan Loaisgia will be throwing some serious heat once the season begins.
Similarly, the Yankees’ bats are as good as anyone’s with a lineup including Gary Sanchez, Luke Voit, DJ LeMahieu, Miguel Andujar, Gio Urshela, Gleyber Torres, Giancarlo Stanton, Aaron Judge, Brett Gardner, Aaron Hicks and Mike Tauchman.
New York also has an advantage as the AL East Division is on the rather weak side this season with the Boston Red Sox and Baltimore Orioles likely unable to even come close to rivaling the Yankees. However, the Tampa Bay Rays will put up a strong fight.
If the World Series comes down to a battle between the desperate Dodgers, who have been robbed of a World Series twice in the last four years, and the Yankees, who haven’t won a title since 2009, then baseball fans certainly will be in for a treat.
Training camp is set to begin on July 1 with Opening Day being either July 23 or 24.
